Iowa Corn Farmer-Leaders attend 2026 Commodity Classic
Iowa Delegates Help Guide Federal Policy
Last week, Iowa Corn’s farmer-leaders headed south to San Antonio, Texas, to serve as delegates at the 2026 Commodity Classic. Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) delegates advocated in support of policies and actions on behalf of Iowa corn farmer members to implement at the federal level with the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA).
“Commodity Classic is the last step in our policy development process when we bring forth new policies from the grassroots level and present them on the national stage,” said Mark Mueller, ICGA President and farmer from Waverly, Iowa. “This year’s theme was “Big Crowd. Big Ideas. Big Results.” and I truly don’t think they could have picked a better way to sum up the 2026 Commodity Classic. Our delegates voiced the needs of our grassroots members and presented resolutions that will allow growers to overcome challenges. The decisions made this week at Corn Congress will guide our federal legislative efforts going forward.”
The Iowa resolutions passed by the NCGA delegate body include:
- Support the use of EPA approved nitrification inhibitors for fertilizer and manure.
- Support a book and claim system with regards to the 45z tax credit and support including a self-certification of practices with ability to be audited by USDA.
- Support legislation to change how antidumping and countervailing duties are applied to input products with an agricultural use and ensure that farmers’ views are considered by the International Trade Commission.
The new NCGA policy document will be posted at iowacorn.org/membership/policy-development when it becomes available. For more information on upcoming policy development meetings in your area, contact the Iowa Corn office at (515) 225-9242 or email at corninfo@iowacorn.org.
