Check-in on the Checkoff: A Partnership Worth Celebrating

Joe Roberts is a farmer from Belmond, Iowa, and serves as the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) President and on the Exports and The Grain Trade Committee. 

To Iowans, the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series represents a rivalry fueled by pride and passion, uniting fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. As corn farmers, the series gives us a platform to share our stories, highlighting the over 4,000 uses for corn and the economic impact it has on our state. 

With over 70% of Iowans tuning in for the games, we have a unique opportunity to reach a wide audience. This sponsorship brings awareness to important issues, such as promoting Unleaded 88 and highlighting corn-fed  beef, pork, dairy and eggs.  

Farming in Iowa is about stewardship and family. We innovate continuously to balance productivity with environmental care. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series allows us to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers, addressing questions and sharing firsthand knowledge about the work of Iowa’s corn farmers. 

Another way we are showcasing farmer stories and amplifying the partnership is by bringing athletes to the farm and allowing them to spend time with farmers in the field. Our video series “Iowa Corn Convos” allows fans to follow their favorite players to farms across Iowa and connect with them in a new way.  

Through the series, we aim to share our story to make the connection to foster an understanding and appreciation for the hard work, passion and dedication of Iowa’s corn farmers. Regardless of who you cheer for, we all want the best for Iowa and strive for a sustainable future for generations to come.
