MONTHLY UPDATE FROM BEN GLEASON, IOWA CORN SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMS MANAGER

Iowa Corn would like to wish happy anniversaries to both the Iowa Ag Water Alliance and the Soil Health Partnership for celebrating five years of successes this summer!  Both initiatives have been heavily supported by Iowa Corn and have been instrumental in helping farmers accelerate adoption of water quality and soil health practices.  Check out iowaagwateralliance.com and soilhealthpartnership.org to learn more!

Although the end of summer is approaching, there’s still time to sign up for cost share to plant cover crops.  The statewide signup for Iowa’s Water Quality Initiative is still accepting applications for first time users of cover crops.  Successful applicants can receive $25 per acre on up to 160 acres. Click here for more information or visit your local soil and water conservation district office.

ADM & Unilever and Cargill & PepsiCo are offering cover crop incentives to farmers who sell soybeans to ADM in Des Moines or corn to Cargill in Eddyville. Click here for more information.

And while continuous CRP signup closed last week, expect a general signup by the end of the year.  No details are available yet, but the signup is required by the farm bill to be conducted in 2019.

Finally, there are plenty of field days coming up before harvest to check out cover crops, wetlands, bioreactors, monarch habitat, and more!  See the list below.
