Victoria Butt Intern Wrap Up

Posted on August 27, 2018 at 8:17 AM by Iowa Corn

As my summer comes to a close and I prepare to head back to school, I also must say goodbye to Iowa Corn and its amazing staff.

Two years ago, I stepped foot in this office for the first time as a member of the Collegiate Advisory Team where I held my position for two years before becoming the 2018 Market Development Intern for Iowa Corn. When I walked in that day, I had no clue the number of amazing and influential people I would meet along the way.

I am lucky enough to say that I got to work for very important farmers who have made it their mission to advocate for those who put food on your plate, fuel in your car, and clothes on your back. I also got the opportunity to work for an organization that supports farmers in a time when they need it the most. When trade wars became a true issue, the Farm Bill is being renewed, and ethanol is becoming a booming market. Iowa Corn took me along on their annual Corn Congress meeting in Washington D.C. where I went to the hill with farmers from across the Midwest and talked directly with Senators and Representatives across the nation about the importance of agriculture and the many issues we are currently facing. I am lucky to say I made an impact.

Thank you to our farmers. I created such a bond with some of them. I am glad to say I made some connections I hope to keep in contact with for a long time.

I also must give credit where credit is due to the amazing staff at Iowa Corn, my team especially. I always felt welcome and at home when coming into the office every morning. My team kept me constantly busy, while also giving me the most fun projects to work on. Natalie, being my supervisor was especially critical to my growing experience over the last year. She has been the epitome of a role-model and answered any and every question I may have had. She taught me so much in the past twelve weeks, it’s astonishing and I am extremely grateful for her.

So with that I say thank you Iowa Corn for such an amazing opportunity and experience and especially all of it’s amazing people. I can gladly say I will be a lifetime member and there is no reason you shouldn’t be either.
