Hello, Iowa Corn!
My name is Victoria Butt, and I have recently started at Iowa Corn as the 2018 Summer Market Development Intern. I will be working with the communications and marketing team to help promote our hard working, dedicated farmers and help spread the word of the over 4,000 products made from corn to our world. I look forward to getting to know more of the staff and some of the nearly 7,500 members we represent. Along with being a lifelong Iowa Corn member, I was also involved with Iowa Corn by serving two years on the Collegiate Advisory Team (CAT), where I gained knowledge of the importance of this organization, as well as a desire to serve those farmers who work hard so that we can maintain a sustainable lifestyle. I knew coming into this internship that I would be given the opportunity to work hands-on with our members, whether it be in the field or in the boardroom.
I grew up in Iowa Falls, Iowa, a mile down the road from my family’s century farm where we have a row crop operation, as well as a herd of purebred Angus cattle. I grew up showing everything from cattle to rabbits to llamas, and my time showing kept me quite busy in the summertime. I was very active in both FFA and 4-H serving in many different leadership positions within my county and district. I also had a variety of other projects. I would haul along to numerous fairs across Iowa as well as the great Iowa State Fair.
I am currently a student at Iowa State University where I am studying Agricultural Communications and International Agriculture. I graduated from Iowa Falls-Alden High School in 2016 and from Ellsworth Community College last spring with my Associates of Professional Studies: Agricultural Transfer Degree. I have been involved in many different organizations while at college; I served as the State President for the Professional Agricultural Students Organization (PAS), and I have been active in Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and Kappa Delta Sorority. Needless to say, I have been quite busy the past two years developing my knowledge and passion for agriculture.
I am very excited to be working at Iowa Corn this summer and get going on some big upcoming projects. Some of these include the Summer Roadtrip campaign, where I will travel throughout the state to attend events within each of our districts, highlight some well-loved restaurants known for their award-winning burgers and tenderloins, and interview some of our own corn grower members who stay actively involved in our organization. You can follow Iowa Corn on our social media platforms to stay updated with where I am next and to enter yourself in our summer giveaways. Use the hashtag #CORNFEDSUMMER to share what ways you use corn this summer. I will also help with the Iowa Corn 300 Indy Car Race held on July 8 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. Don’t forget to get your tickets and t-shirts! I have many more things in store for this internship, and I can’t wait to see who will follow me along on this journey. Look for my blog posts throughout this summer to keep up-to-date on the latest and greatest projects of Iowa Corn!
Sincerely,
Victoria Butt
