Get to Know Carrie Dodds, an Iowa Corn Staff Member

Posted on May 14, 2014 at 1:02 PM by Iowa Corn

My name is Carrie Dodds, and I am a District Field Manager in District 5 (Central Iowa). I grew up in Waukee, which was barely a town when I was growing up. Now, more than 16,000 residents live there.

Growing up, I often had to defend myself as I had two brothers. Before joining Iowa Corn, I knew what was involved in farming as I grew up on a small purebred Angus farm that my parents still run today.

I graduated from Waukee High School and attended college at Northwest Missouri State University. I didn’t take college lightly - I double majored in Ag Business and Animal Science with a minor in Marketing. As I ventured out into the real world, I knew that I wanted to work in something agricultural related so I thought having a marketing background would help expand my career.

I have been working for Iowa Corn for more than seven years now. Every day, I continue to be amazed with the lack of consumer knowledge when it comes to where food comes from. Food just doesn't appear at the grocery store, like most consumers think. Crazy, I know!  Many of the products consumers purchase start with the hard work of a farmer.

My Dad, husband, and two of my boys.

About a year ago, I transitioned from Market Development Manager to a District Field Manager. Moving from an office setting to being in the field was an adjustment, but a good adjustment because now I am able to interact with more farmers. I enjoy the fact that no - day is the same.  I can go from teaching a class of students about the uses of corn, to attending a watershed meeting, to talking to consumers about the benefits of using higher blends of ethanol at a pump promotion!

My three boys!
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to understand the various markets for corn grown in Iowa. I have traveled to Guatemala, Panama, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and several states within the U.S.

When I’m not working, I love being a mom to my three little cowboys! Juggling their schedules doesn’t allow me to have any extracurricular hobbies but that’s okay. Maybe I’ll add a few once they get older.
