Buttermilk Brownies

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup butter
4 Tbsp. cocoa
Bring these three ingredients to a boil, remove from heat and pour into mixing bowl.  Add the following six ingredients to the mixture:

2 cups flour
1 2/3 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix the flour, sugar, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and baking soda well.  Pour into a 9x13 greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Frosting:
6 Tbsp. butter
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups sugar
pinch of salt

Bring these four ingredients to a boil for only 30 seconds.  (Boiling longer will make the sugar crystallize so be sure to only boil lightly for 30 seconds.)  Remove from heat, then add 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1 tsp. vanilla.  Beat well, let cool and spread over cooled brownies.

This weeks recipe comes from Janet Wilwerding.  Janet grew up on a farm in southwest Iowa where her Dad raised hogs, cattle, corn and soybeans.  Janet currently resides in Ankeny with her husband and daughter but enjoys going back to the farm to help her Dad.  Janet has a passion for baking and always enjoys testing new recipes.  These brownies are delicious and are sure to disappear quickly!  Enjoy.
