Harvest Updates – Sept. 28, 2012

Kevin Rempp of Montezuma says there is variability in yields even across the same field. However he credits rain in August for helping with the outcome of his crops. Corn yields have ranged from 170 to over 200 bushels per acre. He has a few acres yet to harvest that had some wind damage and won’t do as well.

Bruce Rohwer of Paullina in northwest Iowa also sees variability in yields across his acres. He has well-drained soils that don’t have much water holding capacity. It was dry on those acres from the end of May until the end of August so the yields are low. He’s not in an area that has typically had aflatoxin issues and he has not heard of any problems in his area. His fields of early corn have been harvested at 15 percent moisture.
