Be careful what you wish for, says Wayne Humphreys of Columbus Junction in Louisa County. He received four inches of rain in four hours late last week. The heavy rain pounded the ground and caused a little soil erosion in certain areas. His corn is up and looks good. Because of the wet conditions, he says they haven’t turned a wheel in about 10 days and still need to finish their soybean planting. Greg Eibs of Laurel in Marshall County missed the majority of the rain that fell across Iowa this past week. Most of the rain stayed south of him so he has been able to make some planting progress. He has a little seed corn left to plant and is about half done planting soybeans. Eibs drills his soybeans in 7.5-inch rows. Soil conditions have been nearly perfect for planting. Many farmers in the area are making good progress with planting as well.
