Rain over the weekend and the past few days has halted planting progress for Larry Klever of Audubon. He has another day of corn planting left. He received more than 1.5 inches of precipitation in the past week. Soils were close to being ready for planting until rain arrived Tuesday. The forecast calls for a chance of rain the next few days as well. Klever said he and other farmers wish the months of April and March were switched.
Nick Leibold of New Hampton also received almost 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend and another .7 of rain on Tuesday with more expected the next few days. He doesn’t think there will be much field work done this week. He has talked to a couple of farmers in his area who are done with corn planting and he’s talked to a couple who haven’t started yet. Leibold has half of his corn planted. The warmer temperatures would help dry soils but he says the forecast for early next week calls for fewer rain chances but cooler temperatures.
