It’s Easter weekend, and we want to share this delicious and festive treat of eggs. It also gives us the opportunity to recognize the poultry industry which is important to Iowa corn farmers and to our state.
Corn's second-largest livestock market is poultry. The poultry industry is forecast to consume more than 1.2 billion bushels of corn in the 2011-2012 marketing year, according to the USDA. There has been a significant recovery in broiler production since last fall, which is beneficial to poultry producers and corn farmers alike.
In addition, dried distillers grains (DDGS), a co-product of the ethanol production process, is a valuable feed ingredient for poultry, such as laying hens’, diets. DDGS serve as a valuable source of energy, protein and amino acids in poultry diets.
Happy Easter!
