Bob Hemesath farms with his brother, Ron, near Calmar in Winneshiek County. They are the fourth generation to farm their family farm raising corn, soybeans and hay. They also own and operate a wean-to-finish hog operation.
Bob says farming is all that he's ever wanted to do and takes pride in providing food and fuel for the world on his family farm.
Farming is constantly changing and will include a higher amount of risk for farmers, and Bob recognizes that saying “With hard work and by using risk management tools effectively the future of farming looks exciting for the next generation on our farm."
Bob believes that farmers have a responsibility to grow safe food for consumers while also protecting the environment and keeping the land productive for future generations. "We as farmers are doing a great job but we can always do better by continuing to improve our farming practices."
In addition to farming, Bob is also a director for the Iowa Corn Growers Association and is the chair of the Iowa Corn Grassroots Network Membership Checkoff Committee.
