Tools for the future: Crop Fair Jan. 21 in Rock Rapids provides essential management tips

January 2, 2015

A local Crop Fair featuring an array of speakers and exhibits, will help area growers deal with volatility in agriculture, according to event organizers with the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB).

The Jan. 21 “Tools for the future” Crop Fair, set for the Forster Community Center, 404 Main Street, in Rock Rapids, will feature speakers on key topics of interest to farmers, include informative displays, and allow participants to interact with local and state experts in agriculture. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program gets underway at 9 a.m., with a complimentary noon lunch. The program will conclude around 1 p.m.

Featured presentations include:

  • Marketing forecast by Paragon Economics President, Steve Meyer
  • Succession farming by Iowa State University Extension Farm Management Specialist, Melissa O’ Rourke
  • Humor in Agriculture by American Cowboy Poet, Baxter Black.

“With market volatility, weather challenges, and the need to stay up-to-date on what’s new in ag technology, we invite Iowa Corn farmers to attend this Crop Fair to glean the latest information to help manage their farming operation,” said ICGA/ICPB District Field Manager Brian Peterson.

Crop fair sponsors include: Peoples Bank, West Lyon FFA, Central Lyon FFA, Lester Feed & Grain, American State Bank, U.S. Bank, Frontier Bank, Premier Bank, Farmers Elevator Coop, Edna Elevator, Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

Pre-registration by Jan. 19 is encouraged. For details and to pre-register contact Kory Johnson at 712-472-9100 or kory.johnson@epremierbank.com.
