The Rivalry by Any Other Name is Not the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series

September 5, 2018

MEDIA ADVISORY

Allegiance. Whether you root for the cardinal and gold or the black and gold, it is your allegiance that drives your team to victory. The Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board proudly partner with Learfield on behalf of both Iowa State University and the University of Iowa Athletic Departments for the title sponsorship of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series™. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series showcases how Iowa corn farmers impact our daily lives. Iowa corn farmers fuel our economy every day with the food we eat and when we fill up with homegrown ethanol.

2018 marks the eighth year Iowa Corn has sponsored the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series which tracks the head-to-head match-ups between the Cyclones and Hawkeyes with each victory earning points toward the overall series championship. The first scheduled events in the in-state rivalry series are the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series soccer game which will take place on September 7 in Ames followed by the football game happening on September 8 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City with kickoff at 4 p.m. Central. Fans can follow the score of the Series at iowacorn.org/cyhawk

Iowa Corn developed the CORN: IT’S EVERYTHING campaign to inform consumers about all the amazing products that come from corn. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series is a great way to reach Iowans with more than 65 percent of Iowans tuning into the football game.

Iowa Corn plays an essential role in our state’s economy, for feed, food, and fuel. Corn and corn products are used to make more than 4,000 products – everything from bacon cheeseburgers at your tailgate, to soap and lipstick, fireworks and even the ethanol fuel for your vehicle! We encourage fans to support their local farmers by fueling up with higher blends of ethanol by using our new interactive Fuel Finder to find a station near you!

Official Terminology: The official trademarked name of the rivalry series between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University is the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series with a dash between Cy and Hawk. The hashtag for the game is #CyHawk. Remember, the rivalry by any other name is not the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series!
