Statement from President Curt Mether

November 30, 2018

Today the signing of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is an important step in the final approval and modernizing the most important trade agreement to Iowa and U.S. corn farmers.

Mexico and Canada are top markets for Iowa corn farmers. Mexico is the top market for corn, distillers dried grains, pork, and beef. While Canada is among the top for ethanol, pork, and beef.  While they have traditionally been top buyers of corn in all forms, there is opportunity for market expansion.

Trade policy is important to Iowa farmers to gain market access, removal of tariffs and other barriers. Iowa Corn Growers Association members will continue to work towards our top goal of defending and expanding trade agreements around the world.
