Palo Alto County Corn Gowers Hold First Annual County Corn Bowl

October 17, 2016

The Palo Alto County Corn Growers (PACCG) announced today they will hold the First Annual Palo Alto County Corn Bowl home conference rivalry football game between the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines and the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Friday, October 21. The winner of the game will receive the Palo Alto Corn Bowl trophy to be housed in their school’s trophy case for the next year and will be considered Palo Alto County Corn Bowl Champions!

“The Palo Alto Corn Growers are proud to sponsor this title matchup between our hometown high school football teams,” said PACCG President Mike Poeppe. “Whoever wins the game, we as corn farmers will be the biggest winners because we get to share our message and passion for what we do with our community.”

PACCG is active in supporting agricultural education in our local schools.  Sponsoring an annual FFA quiz bowl and being an active participant in EPAK (an educational program for the county’s fourth graders) are some of the ways PACCG is providing educational assistance to our local students.  On a state level, Iowa Corn is active in providing college scholarships for high school seniors and college students.

Iowa Corn is comprised of two organizations whose mission is “To Create Opportunities for Long-Term Iowa Corn Grower Profitability”. There are many ways this mission is accomplished:

  • The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) is a membership driven organization which is one of the most effective and influential agricultural organizations in the country lobbying on pro-farmer issues at both the state and federal level.

  • The Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) represents thousands of Iowa farmers creating an economic climate in which the Iowa corn industry will be successful through research, market development and education. ICPB invests is putting it resources into building and maintaining domestic and world-wide markets to expand markets and promote corn in all forms. Iowa corn. On the local level, we are promoting the use of ethanol as a clean air alternative for Iowa.

The foundation of Iowa Corn is built from the grassroots. If you are interested in joining the Palo Alto Corn Growers and becoming active in our organization, please contact PACCG’s president, Mike Poeppe at 712-298-1623 or email at poeppe4@gmail.com.
