Maverick Will Make His Appearance at This Year’s Governor’s Steer Show

August 14, 2020

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board® (ICPB) is proud to sponsor Maverick, the corn-fed steer at this year’s 38th Annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show on Saturday, August 15th at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center in Ames, Iowa. Accompanying the steer will be Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) President Jim Greif, a farmer from Monticello, Iowa, and Isaac Stamp, a high school freshman from Walnut, Iowa.

The Stamp family lives on their century farm in Walnut, Iowa, where along with Adam's parents Darrell and Jill, they grow corn and soybeans, custom feed hogs, and have 150 head of cows. Adam and Nicole Stamp have three children Ella, Isaac, and Molly. Adam is currently the Commodity Manager at the Elite Octane ethanol plant in Atlantic, Iowa, where he manages the company's risk position in corn, ethanol, natural gas, corn oil, and more. He encouraged Isaac to start showing in the 6th grade and has been ever since. Isaac is also involved in FFA, 4-H, and plays football for his high school, AHSTW School District.

Isaac feeds Maverick a mixed ration of corn and distillers grains (DDGS). Corn-fed beef is the most widely produced type of beef in the U.S. In fact, last year 9 percent or 1.3 billion bushels of corn went directly to corn-fed beef cattle in the U.S.

“The Governor’s Charity Steer Show is a rewarding and successful event that Iowa Corn participates in annually to give back to the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa all while supporting our livestock partners,” said ICGA President and farmer from Monticello Jim Greif.

All proceeds of the show go directly to the Ronald McDonald Houses of Iowa and the families in need at the facility. To find out more about the importance of the livestock industry to Iowa’s corn farmers, go to www.iowacorn.org/corn-uses/livestock/

Due to the COVID-19 guidelines of social distancing and limited numbers allowed at the show, please contact Brandi Snyder at 515-225-9242 to set up an interview. We will also have photos upon request after the event.
