Applications are now open for the Iowa Corn Leadership Enhancement and Development (I-LEAD) program. I-LEAD is a two-year intensive experiential learning program that focuses on developing emerging leaders who have a passion for agriculture. Applications are available on Iowa Corn’s website and are due July 1, 2020. This year marks the tenth class and twenty years of this reputable ag leadership program.
“I would recommend I-LEAD to others because it was an excellent program that gave me opportunities I never could have experienced on my own,” said current I-LEAD member Ryan Steffensen of Guthrie Center. “I-LEAD gave me the chance to meet several incredible professionals from around the state and expand my network.”
Each Iowa Corn I-LEAD class meets about ten times over the course of two years providing experience and training in the agricultural industry such as leadership, effective communication, policy, and global agriculture. The program includes an experience in Washington D.C., a domestic mission and an optional international mission.
“I think it is even more important that industry and farm professionals develop their leadership and network skills than ever,” Steffensen said. “We need as many people fighting for our way of life more now than ever. Being able to share stories from the class, missions, and other's experiences has been one of the best parts of ILEAD.
Iowa Corn’s Grassroots Network, Membership and Checkoff Committee chairman Roger Wuthrich echoed Steffensen’s call for emerging leaders, “Iowa Corn recognizes the future of agriculture depends on the development of new leaders. As we face these challenging times, now more than ever, we need to invest in the future leaders of agriculture.”
