Iowa Corn. Creating opportunities for Iowa Corn GrowersFor Farmers

Defending Agriculture in Iowa
Agriculture is critical to Iowa’s economy. In fact, a 2003 Iowa State University report concluded that Iowa’s economy is 3.7 times more dependent on farm and food and related production as a component of its economy than the rest of the nation. Unfortunately, it is all too common for outside organizations to attack Iowa agriculture.

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board’s (ICPB) grower leaders understand that profitability starts with a working environment where growers can make practical decisions about how they operate. That’s why ICPB has launched an educational campaign to remind all Iowans that the state’s economic health depends on agriculture.

Defending Iowa’s Livestock Industry
In its effort to defend Iowa's agriculture industry, the ICPB, in cooperation with the Iowa Corn Growers Association, is stepping up to support Iowa corn growers’ #1 customer – the livestock industry.

Most of Iowa’s corn crop goes to feed livestock. Livestock feeding also helps Iowa’s grower-owned ethanol plants because the economic success of a plant depends in large part on its ability to market the feed co-products.

To educate Iowa farmers and rural residents about these facts, checkoff representatives are speaking out at local meetings, farm events, and through the media, urging all Iowa farmers to work together in defense of corn growers' #1 customer.

Cycle Sustainability

« Iowa’s livestock producers depend on Iowa corn for feed. Livestock contribute valuable organic nutrients that replenish the land, which supports the next season’s crops. This is Iowa agriculture’s cycle of sustainability. If one part of the cycle is disrupted, the whole system feels the impact.

Good Neighbor Award
Iowa Corn supports the Good Neighbor Award program developed by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Radio Network. The program honors Iowa livestock producers for their commitment and continued dedication to the care of the land, the environment and their livestock. Neighbors of livestock producers, the people living with the operation year-round, nominate producers for the award, describing why their neighbor should be designated a Good Neighbor. For more information or to nominate a responsible livestock producer near you, go to http://www.agriculture.state.ia.us.
