In addition, the ICPB has funded dairy
beef feeding trials at the University of Illinois and Iowa State University
to determine the competitiveness of using distillers grains (DG) in
rations. In conjunction with the feeding trials, the University of
Minnesota is testing the effects of DG on dairy beef quality and tenderness,
using meat from animals harvested at the completion of the feeding
trials. Results from the studies can be downloaded from the Ethanol
Co-Products Publications Library.
Assuming that the majority of future ethanol growth will be in dry grind
production, it is estimated that plants will be generating approximately 16 million tons of distillers grains in 2012, or more than twice the amount produced in 2004. Accordingly, more distillers grains will be entering the feed market with each passing year.
For specific ration formulations and to purchase distillers grains, please contact the distillers grains marketers listed in Key Contacts and Resources.
