ICGA 2024 Legislative Priorities

As your voice on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. and at the state capitol in Des Moines, all legislative priorities pursued by the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) start with you. Our 7,000 members have a seat at the table, voicing their opinions on what matters most to Iowa corn growers. You set the agenda.
 
It starts at the grassroots level, where members discuss hot button issues at round table meetings. From there the top issues advance to the ICGA Annual Grassroots Summit and Policy Conference held each August, and legislative priorities are then finalized by the ICGA Board of Directors in December.
 

ICGA members are encouraged to bring these key priority issues to their elected officials throughout the year to share how these issues impact corn growers.

Current priorities as established by ICGA members:  

State Legislative Priorities in 2024 (Alphabetical)
  • Checkoff – Protect the Iowa Corn Checkoff.

  • Conservation/Water Quality – Maintain legislative funding stream for Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy, including Maximum Return to Nitrogen.

  • Ethanol – Obtain and increase funding for infrastructure cost-share program (RFIP).

  • Ethanol – Promote ethanol as a carbon reduction solution.

  • Livestock – Support existing regulatory framework for the livestock industry.

Federal Legislative Priorities in 2024 (Alphabetical)
  • Carbon – Support carbon intensity reduction initiatives and credit programs.

  • Ethanol – Support a nationwide E15 and the Next Generation Fuels Act. We support retaining the RFS.

  • Farm Bill – Protect crop insurance and protect/expand funding for Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development (FMD)

  • Taxes – Protect critical tax credits.

  • Trade – Expand new and protect existing bilateral and multi-lateral trade agreements.
