Feeding Trials

Studies Funded by ICPB

Because livestock is a top corn customer, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) and the Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) provide financial and in-kind support to many livestock initiatives, as well as livestock research projects through various universities and institutions. Recent studies funded by Iowa Corn include:

Quality of eggs impacted by feeding DDGS to layers

  • Partnered with Illinois Corn and Michigan Corn.
  • Conducted a feeding trial with layers using regular distiller’s dried grains with solubles and low-fat DDGS from backend deoiling production. The nutritional quality of eggs wasexamined and correlated with the quality of the DDGS feed. The nutrients in eggs, DDGS and corn that will be tested include amino acids, phospholipids, carotenoids, vitamin E, antioxidant capacity, malondialdehyde in egg yolk and phytate.

Iowa Dairy Industry economic impact study

  • Partnered with Midwest Dairy Association, Iowa Area Development Group and Farm Bureau to develop a study showing the economic impact of the economic advantage of sustaining and growing the dairy industry of Iowa.

ISU vitamin C studies

There were a few studies conducted at the Iowa State University with supplementing vitamin C to feedlot cattle being fed distillers grains.
